Subdivisions &
To further roleplay the Michigan State Police allows its members to create, maintain and obtain membership in subdivisions. Subdivisions allow Troopers to receive specialized training and become experts in specific areas of enforcement. All subdivisions have internal rank structures, vehicle/uniform structures and documents which are maintained by their appointed coordinators in conjunction with the Michigan State Police’s Command Staff and Administration Team.
Bomb Unit
A Bomb Unit, or Bomb Squad, is a specialized division within law enforcement trained to handle explosive devices. They are responsible for safely disposing of explosives, investigating suspicious packages, providing security in high-risk situations, and offering training on explosive threat recognition. Their primary goal is to ensure public safety in situations involving potential explosive hazards.
Marine Unit
A Marine Unit is a specialized division within law enforcement or public safety agencies that focuses on water-related activities and law enforcement. This unit is responsible for patrolling waterways, enforcing maritime laws, ensuring boater safety, conducting water rescues, and responding to emergencies that occur on lakes, rivers, or coastal areas. Members of the Marine Unit often operate boats or watercraft and receive specialized training in water rescue, navigation, and other maritime activities. The primary goal is to maintain safety and security on bodies of water within their jurisdiction.
(Trooper 3) Aviation
The responsibility of the aviation unit is to assist ground units with high priority calls. These high priority calls include Pursuits, Robberies, Hostage Situations, and Serving Warrants. In addition to assisting LEOs with priority calls, the aviation unit can also assist the Fire Department with Search & Rescue calls.
Special Emergency Response Team
The Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), Is responsible for handling high-priority calls that normal patrol units aren’t equipped to handle. The SERT team undergoes extensive training to prepare them for these situations. Their expertise is particularly crucial in managing hostage situations, robberies, and mass shootouts. Moreover, the SERT team collaborates with Narcotics Unit to serve warrants for wanted fugitives, enhancing the overall effectiveness and efficiency of law enforcement operations.
Cyber Unit
A Cyber Unit is a specialized division within law enforcement or security agencies that focuses on investigating and combating cybercrime. This unit is responsible for addressing various cyber threats, including hacking, online fraud, identity theft, and other forms of digital crime. Members of the Cyber Unit typically possess expertise in computer forensics, network security, and digital investigations. They work to identify, track, and apprehend individuals involved in cybercriminal activities, as well as prevent and mitigate cyber threats to ensure the security of digital environments.
CVE
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) focuses on regulating and enforcing compliance with regulations for trucks and buses. It includes checks on weight limits, vehicle inspections, driver compliance, cargo transport, and necessary permits. This ensures road safety, infrastructure protection, and adherence to commercial vehicle regulations. As a detective, it’s your job to investigate unsolved crimes within our jurisdiction. Your primary goal should be to be able to solve a crime and take the suspect to trial to get them sentenced by the courts.
MBU
A Motorbike Unit typically refers to a specialized group within a police force or military organization equipped with motorcycles for various purposes such as patrolling, traffic enforcement, crowd control, and rapid response to emergencies. These units are often deployed in urban areas where maneuverability and speed are essential. Motorbike units offer advantages like agility in navigating through traffic and narrow spaces, as well as the ability to quickly access areas inaccessible to larger vehicles. They are commonly seen as a proactive approach to law enforcement and public safety, allowing officers to swiftly respond to incidents and maintain a visible presence in communities.
TCRU
A Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is a specialized division within law enforcement dedicated to investigating and reconstructing traffic accidents. This unit employs advanced techniques, such as accident scene analysis, vehicle dynamics, and collision physics, to determine the causes and contributing factors of traffic crashes. Members of the unit are trained to gather and analyze evidence, including skid marks, vehicle damage, and witness statements, in order to recreate the sequence of events leading to an accident. K-9
A K9 Unit is a specialized division within law enforcement that utilizes trained police dogs (K9s) to assist officers in various tasks. These highly skilled dogs are often trained for tasks such as drug detection, explosives detection, search and rescue operations, and apprehending suspects. The K9 Unit plays a vital role in enhancing law enforcement capabilities through the unique skills and abilities of police dogs.
DNR
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is dedicated to protecting and managing the state’s natural resources, including wildlife, forests, waterways, and public lands. DNR Conservation Officers serve as law enforcement professionals, educators, and stewards of the environment, ensuring compliance with game, fish, and environmental laws while promoting outdoor safety and conservation. Their mission is to safeguard Michigan’s natural heritage for current and future generations.
DB
The Michigan State Police (MSP) Detectives Bureau is a specialized division responsible for conducting in-depth criminal investigations across the state.
